Since the economic recession of 2008, the number of children that school districts have identified as homeless has increased significantly (NAEHYC, 2014). In fact, the number of school-age children who experienced homelessness reached approximately 1.23 million in 2013, which is the highest level since such data were first collected (Bassuk, DeCandia, Beach, & Berman, 2014; NAEHCY, 2014).
